How to Beat the Vagabond

The Vagabond looks strikingly similar to the player’s character in Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force and Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL World Duel Carnival. Upon talking to him, it’s also heavily implied that he is actually the same character from those games, and has come seeking new challenges.

In Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links, the player has the opportunity to challenge the Vagabond. The Vagabond duels with a very interesting twist: every duel, his deck is chosen from a randomly selected Duel Links player. That’s right—you’re going up against another player’s handcrafted deck, so you never know what to expect!

As much as we’d love to share some strategies with you on how to defeat the Vagabond, it is virtually impossible due to the essentially infinite amount of decks he has at his disposal. It really just comes down to luck, as your deck will either be ready or not to counter whatever he’s got. At the beginning of the duel, the game will show you the name of the deck and username of the player who created it. Win or lose, you’ll be able to view the deck’s cards after the battle.

Try your best against the Vagabond, but don’t worry too much if you lose, as you’ll get the same amount of EXP either way. The amount of EXP you earn is based on the deck’s ranking in Ranked Duels. This means that if the player who created the deck performed very well with it, it’s worth more EXP. Here’s the full breakdown:

  • Rookie: 1,400 EXP
  • Bronze: 1,500 EXP
  • Silver: 1,600 EXP
  • Gold: 1,700 EXP
  • Platinum: 1,800 EXP
  • Legendary and higher: 2,000 EXP

So, to recap, the Vagabond uses a randomly selected player deck every time you challenge him. Try your best, because either way you’ll be earning some nice EXP! If you have any other questions about the Vagabond, let us know in the comments below!
