For the past several days, I have played a lot of High School Story, a time management, school building simulation game for the iOS. I simply love to follow the story, the rivalry with Hearst High and to create the best high school that there ever was.

However, since this is not an easy job, I’ve decided to come to the rescue in case you’re in trouble and share with you some High School Story cheats, as well as a set of tips and tricks to help you improve your strategy and turn your high school into the best one possible!

An easy way to cheat in the game is to use the iPhone time lapse cheat: simply change the time on your device and you will have completed whatever you were working on.

However, unlike other games, High School Story is somehow aware of this trick and will send your students to detention after that and the only way to get out of detention is to wait for time to pass. So maybe it’s just better to be a good player and not cheat?

The best hangouts to get in High School Story

There are three different types of hangouts that can become the home of your students:

– Nerd Hangouts which give you a maximum of 3,500 coins per hour, but can only hold 2 students.
– Jock Hangouts which give you a maximum of 2,000 coins per hour and can hold 3 students.
– Prep Hangouts which give you a maximum of 1,000 coins per hour and can house 3 students.

Although you can’t go without a Prep hangout, I would suggest keeping those to a minimum.

For starters, it would be a great idea to have a prep hangout, three nerd hangouts and three jock ones.

Although at first it might seem that you have all the coins that you need, pretty soon all things will become extremely expensive, so make sure to maximize coin production.

Send your students on dates

High School Story has a different approach to dating when compared to real life: it’s best to have couples that keep on dating and are on serious relationships.

Even though at first dating seems a waste of time, as soon as the status of the couple changes from flirting to dating, you will start getting rewards. Coins, free rings: it’s all there, proving that it’s worth investing time in real relationships!

Don’t rush buying plots of land

New plots will be more and more expensive and will require more and more time to become available and some of your quests will require you to buy a new plot of land.

A good strategy is to buy a plot of land but only unlock it as soon as you get a mission that needs it: this way you save time and money!

How to get free rings

There are not many ways of earning free rings, but it is possible: the easiest way is to link your game to your Facebook account and start linking students with your Facebook friends (they won’t even get spammed unless you hit the “publish button”!).

Then you can sell these classmates and get new ones using the same method. It’s a slow process, but it’s free rings!

And although it’s not really the same thing, make sure you complete missions because some will reward you with free rings, only spend them when you really need to and send your students on dates!

Always work on creating books in the library

They don’t get cheaper if you buy more, but you should always buy more because pretty soon you will need a ton of them anyway to upgrade your students.

So always work on getting books (easiest way to get the most is to upgrade the library and always order the 23 hour book pack, although it’s insanely expensive!)

Don’t hurry to upgrade your students

As long as you have the books, you can immediately upgrade your students. However, I would advise you against upgrading them all over level 3 for two reasons: first, you will sometimes need a high level student of a specific type to complete a mission and maybe you won’t have enough books to get it there and second, you might actually end up selling students to make room for the new complex ones (like gamers and homecoming students and so on).

How to maximize coin revenue

Since it’s pretty obvious that you need a ton of them, there are a few ways to make sure that your high school is producing at maximum levels:

1. Keep the parties running. If you don’t need a specific student to join you, send there random students for a party and sell the student that you get. Rinse and repeat to make more coins for free.

2. Maximize revenue with hangouts. Make sure that you have your hangouts filled with students so that they make money as fast as possible. Since you can sell them, whenever you get a special one, simply sell one you don’t need and they will keep making money.

The higher the level of your students, the faster they will produce money, but the sum can’t get past the maximum level of the hangout (that’s why it’s best to have more Nerd and Jock hangouts to maximize revenue)

3. Send your guys on dates: relationships make you money. It’s easy as that!

Guide to High School Story student combinations

Unless you want to pay real coins or rings to get different types of students, you can host parties and based on the people who are there, you will get a special student. Here are the combinations for all of them:

Jock: Jock + Jock
Prep: Prep + Prep
Nerd: Nerd + Nerd
Cheerleader: Prep + Jock
Student Gov: Prep + Nerd
Gamer: Jock + Nerd
Artist: Artist + Artist
Artist: Artist + any special student
Dancer: Artist + Jock
Filmmaker: Artist + Nerd
Actor: Artist + Prep
Homecoming Queen or Homecoming King: Filmmaker + Cheerleader

  4. Oh, and folks, just a warning. If u wanna use the time lapse cheat, the maximum time u can forward it is 4 hours coz if u do anymore it might pick it up straight away. Also, if u get detention and then get out of it, don’t use the time lapse cheat straight after coz the game will identify it immediately and give you detention an hour More than u had before. Rather wait for about 2 days until you use it again :) hope this helps!

      • “detention” is when the game knows you cheated and so you have to leave the game sit open for a certain amount of time. I think first time it’s 2 minutes, then it goes to 30 minutes and then it goes to 2 hours. and you can’t close the game or the time won’t tick down. you also can’t do anything except collect coins from your hangouts. you can’t complete quests or go on dates or parties.
        The time lapse cheat is when you change the time on your phone and so the game thinks it’s been more time than it has been and you get quests done faster. But you CAN NOT move more than 4 hours or you get in trouble for cheating and have to go to detention.

    • Actually,
      If you end up getting detention for more than you want to handle, delete the app. Go back into App Store and get it again. You’re entire game will be restored, everything, even the money, EXCEPT that awful detention! I promise it works every time, just delete then reinstall, and tap “ok” when the alert comes up, and voila! You’re game is there, detention is gone.

    • I’ve time-lapsed probably for about 2-3 weeks and then i get a warning so my students don’t go into detention, then i do it again and they i get put in detention then i delete the game because i have it saved on my game center on iPhone and re-install it and i’m not on detention anymore and i still have the cash and the quests done :P

    • The trick is to do it in increments of, say, 3 hours or so. If you do any more it will give you a warning and then detention. You can’t party, quest or date. It is horrible, my friend does this all the time. I only do 2 hours and it works like a dream.

    • Just like it says. Start a Party and use a Prep and a Jock character. When the party is over, tap to see the new character that you have earned and you will get your quest completed too.

    • You probably maxed out on the number of buildings you can buy right now you’ll have to wait until you get bumped to the next level in the game or sell a building that you’ve already bought
      Im having the sane issue right now I’m in level 16

  9. I did tried the time cheat and it really worked. I already have million coins with out worrying anything. Quest will be completed very fast . all you have to do after you get detention is just delete the apps and re-download again :). Hope it will help you guys.. Anyway the apps is free..   10. how do you get past the part when you have to help jullian and he needs other people to help him study or what ever and one nerd needs to be a level 2+ nerd and another one is a level 2+ prep and a level 3+ nerd.how do you do it my nerds are at level 1 i need help really bad!!!!!

    • Hi you need to get books so you get books by clicking on the class room and pick the quantity you require after you collect the books ou click om
      N the person and press the button below where the books are on there mini profile

    • get books by clicking the classroom, then click books at the bottom. A certain amount of books costs a certain amount of money.
      I usually get a hundred books which takes 2 hours, and costs 2000 coins.

  11. I have 3 prep hangouts,you can upgrade your hangout to have 5 students.you can’t upgrade the other hangouts.this works for me to upgrade instead of having More hangouts:)

    • It will over Game Center (wifi based) but not on your actual device (storage based). So if you wanted to play without the wifi, it’ll be a totally different game because everything is reset from the device storage. So really to play the saved game, you have to have wifi……. I know I know I’m confusing people….

    • If you delete the app then redownload, you only have 50% chance of getting your old game back. The first time I tried, I got my data back, but only about half of it. The next time I did it, all my data was gone.

  17. I got a vampire by partying with a prep and a dancer, and a wallflower by partying with a gamer and a prep. Haven’t managed to get the girl versions yet though.

  18. I have found something new for the time-lapse cheat! Change the time by, say, 2 hours, since most quest take 1-1/2 hours. Then, chill out on another app or website for about 20 minutes, and when you come back, you won’t get in detention, or a warning! It works on my app (I use HSS on a tablet) sorrtyvif it doesn’t work for yours.
    PS. I am currently trying to see if you can change the time by 5+ hours, but as far as ive done, only up to 3

    • You should probably shut down your device, then turn it back on and try the game again. And by shutting it down, don’t just shut it off so you can turn it right back on, SHUT IT DOWN!!!!

  20. With the time laps cheat u can just forward yoir clocks date ahead a day and it never gives u detention but it laps your time 24 hours :) hope this helps

    • ok what you do is use the time cheat (put it a month ahead ) go in the game (dont touch anything) go out change the time to the original and it should work )

  23. I’ve using the time for 24 hours ahead.
    Make sure when u returning to the normal time u don’t have nothing loading, or guest. Cuz I just gonna complicated things. If u don’t it will give you extra days to complete them like @sarah said. Make sure nothing is running!! Im in level 14 now :) awesome game

  26. Timecheat is baaaad ! I find refreshing game then setting time much easier ! Make sure ur wifi off though.thats how im high lvl and over 5million coins and 20k books.sorry if this not make sense hard to explain check my yt vid

  33. I found out a trick to use the time-lapse and not get in detention! just turn ur wifi off and it can’t detect! But you should never play the game with the wifi on and can’t turn the time back, ever!

  35. I hate how in detention you have to keep the game running to get out of it. And I’ve tried turning the time back it worked the first 2 times when I had the Wifi off.

  40. I really like this game, so cool! Oh, and about the dating, I already have two girls in love, and I see this for the first time. Finally a game that doesn’t make differences between straight and gay couples! I’m not gay’ I just support them. Maybe that’s a glitch but anyway, cool game.

  47. I’m stuck at level 17 and the quest requires me to have 5 girl classmates wearing intern chic outfit. The problem is that I have updated my game and the outfit wasn’t there on the shop anymore. I have bought only one intern outfit though. What should I do? Deleting the game is my last option.

  48. I need help!! In a quest it says I need a luck of the Irish outfit but there isn’t one :-/ there is a kiss me I’m Irish one but not a luck of the Irish one!!!! Where do I get it?!

    • I have the same issue – I’ve already spent the extra rings without looking :-/ and I bought the kiss me im Irish thinking that was it

      It’s a BOY outfit! – you need to customize any guy character and it’s under trending (that’s where I found it)

Ok, for all you people out there who have no clue whatsoever of which combinations to use to get a student, just open the shop, click the classmates section and scroll through to find the one you want. Look on the bottom right hand corner of the characters box (the boxes in which they’re standing in {I guess you could consider them being locked up in crates if this were real life} or the somewhat rounded corners of boxes you are scrolling through) and it will show which traits they have, depicted in symbols such as a red Jordan for jock, pink cashmere vest for prep, purple calculator for nerd, and so on. Those pictures tell which traits you need to party with. Lets say I want a wallflower: since they are part jock, prep, and nerd, I need to party students with those traits together: student gov and jock, gamer and prep, cheerleader and nerd.

You know when you have a detention you still can get books, get coins,visit friends school,buy clothing, level the student up, and if you started a date you can finish it with the time elasped trick. i got detention and used it. So its not so bad. But the bad part is you cant start dates, or do quests. But theres one part i still dont understand, i used the time elasped trick and i put it a day further, and i got the date finish! It would of lasted 23 hours, but the time elasped trick worked for the date but the detention as still there! and i didnt get caught!

    • You just keep partying. Remember Wes? Make him party with a random classmate – two to five parties, probably – to get another Slacker. Chances are, it is always another random classmate just yet and it is another Boy Slacker. If you want to get a Girl Slacker. Host a party with Wes and a Boy Slacker. Maybe 5 to 7 parties will do.

  60. Time cheat forward the time get more money speed up that moment you buy land it’s simple just go settings general date&time bring it up then open the app that’s it consequences are ingame detention so you keep the app open for an hour and you can still buy move around and teach even cheat but you can’t quest for a little while you won’t get banned

  62. There is a way to do the time lapse trick without getting in detention :)

    Before you go into settings, try closing out the app, changing the time, then reopening it. It worked for me :D

    • That might mean “Break-up”. Go to the Isle of Love, find the couple and break-up. Or it just may be the wording of the Quest and you don’t really have to do anything but keep going.

    • Just Keep Partying! And you should know the right combinations for getting it. See the banners under the students. And the most important thing of all, be patient. Sometimes Mascots – especially the Girl – won’t just come out after a party or two. I got my Girl Mascot for like 11 parties.

    • The only way I know of is to go to The Store, Click on Decor and under each item for sale it says how many you have stored and how many you Own. Like the Slate Path: You may Own 20, you you have 10 already in use. Be careful when placing the ones you already own because once you have used all the ones you already own the game AUTOMATICALLY starts making you buy them. Easy to miss that work BUY.

  69. You don’t go to storage… just place the item you stored anywhere and itll be free because youve already bought it…just stored it…and it shows you on the decorations whats in storage and not…:)

  70. i turned off my phone and removed my battery for some purposes and when i turned it on, my phone changed its time. and when i visited my HSS app, i got in-game detention. I NEVER CHEATED and worse, its in 5 hours time detention!! what should i do???

    • Go to the Isle of Love. There you will see Couples. Click on that then choose then choose the couple. Once you choose the couple you have the chose of breaking up (A BROKEN HEART ICON) or Start Date. Choose the broken heart.

      • Just look at the bottom of the thing. It feels u what they are like part nerd, part jock, part prep, whatever. Then u go to The party thing and choose students that have those personalities. Keep in mind that u can only party with 2 ppl.

  79. If you don’t have enough rings to purchase a character, party! In the section of the menu where you tap on admissions office, each type of character will have little banners On the bottom where you can see what two types of characters you must have a party with in order to get the character you need. (Example slacker and nerd makes DJ, no?)

Guys ya dont have to wait for buildings.dating.quests idk what else but u can go to settings go on date and time if its on automatic I recommend u not to do it or u will get detention 4 4hrs or u can risk it + its a good cheat. When u go on it u will see all the settings date time click on date and the limit u can do is 2yrs so if u have something upgrading do 1day and go bck to high school story and tadada it becomes.a present and u look at ur hangouts theres would be that logo where u can collect coins

  82. when i went on my high school story before it was done loading it asked me a question and you could pick new or local and i accidentally clicked local and i used to be a level 13 and now i am a level 5 and then i took it off and left it alone and i am still a level 5 what do i do?

    • Another tip is don’t get angry because for example if you do a party trying to get an actor it is more rare to get a girl actor so don’t get mad the first time

  89. The first thing you should do with your rings is to upgrade your admission office..It’s very expensive (300 rings) but Trust me, the game get easier after you do that. The homecoming queen, as far as I know, is the rarest type of student … The surest way to get one is to buy it but if you don’t have enough rings, party like… A million times ( not literally ) …

  98. Every time I try the time lapse cheat, I get really far ahead, and I can go MONTHS ahead in the cheat, as long as I only go one day at a time, as long as I don’t go back in time. Then, to not get caught,I delete the app, them set the time back, so I Dont get a detention,and reinstall the app.once I do this, all of my accomplishments that I completed with with the cheat were gone, coins, rings, books,
    quests, everything. Does anyone know how I can solve this? Is there a certain way you can make sure your fame saved with the Google play game center before you delete the app? I don’t get why my app is doing this. Thank you!

    • Click on the list of all your students (looks like a notebook or a clipboard icon on the lower right. Then click on the person you want to delete. Their whole history pops ups. At the bottom is a list of things to do with the person including “Customize” “Clothing” “Move” and “Sell”. Choose “Sell”.

  113. I changed my time in the game and got 3 min. Of detention so I did it again and got 2 hours then did it again and it said if I do it again it will level me down and punish me? So I Uninstalled the game and reinstalled it then signed back in and I didn’t have to take my detention!

  123. Ok so I did the time lapse cheat. It works, but when I set the time back to normal it gave me a warning. If I didn’t set back the time would it work??

  124. I did the time cheat and it put me in detention but the cheat worked. For detention you have to leave your game running for at least 3 minutes. It disables quests and parties but it’s worth it. I got 10,000 coins 60 rings, unlocked 6 plots of land, and finished 3 quests. The only bad thing is if you are having to people date at the time it sets the duration time way longer than it should be. Like mine was supposed to be 2 hours but now it’s 3 days. You can probably do the time lapse cheat again on the date too but I haven’t tried it yet.

  127. My daughter n I play separately two games. All my ppl walk around campus, hers only walk aroumd campus when they’re questing. Ive redesigned her campus many times and still cant figure out why? Anyone know how to brimg them out their hangout?

  129. Ok, so I have 4 people in my “little admissionary”. A jock, two cheerleaders, and a student gov girl. But I need all four of them to complete all 3 of my quests though I can’t admit them because my hangouts are all full. Im only on level 3 and I don’t have any way to level up.
