How to Start the Genshin Impact Alchemical Ascension Event

Before you are eligible to participate in the Alchemical Ascension event, you need to be at least adventure rank 20 and have completed the main story quest “Song of the Dragon and Freedom”.

Once you meet the prerequisites, you should automatically receive the story quest “Potions Most Potent”, as part of the “Alchemy and Business Operations” quest chain. The quest takes you to the castle library, where you’ll meet with Lisa to hear her plans.

Lisa’s great idea involves opening a potion shop that sells alchemy goods to the people of Mondstadt. Head to the location marked on your map to find the potion shop, and Lisa shows you how to start brewing potions.

After you’ve created your first potion, you can learn how to stock potions on the display for selling. Set up your display for the day, then finish the cycle and watch your profits come in. To wrap things up, Lisa explains how to use the cultivation area to grow more crops for more potion making.

As she finishes with her explanation, Lisa gives you the operations handbook, enlists Freda to be your logistics knight, and then leaves you to it. You’re now free to brew potions as you please!

Tips & Tricks for Concocting the Best Potions

Your potion shop acts in cycles, and one cycle involves brewing potions, cultivating crops, and merchandising the potions. Once you’re done with prep work, you can sit down at Lisa’s table to end the current cycle, or you can hit the Next Cycle button in your handbook.

Overseeing the entire potion shop operation is a daunting task, so we’ll break it down, step-by-step for you to make things more digestible. Let’s start with the arguably the most important task of all, concocting potions.

Before we start brewing, it’s good practice to take a look at the current market trends by tapping the antenna button in the top right corner of the cauldron screen. This shows you the current market news, which gives some hints on what customers are looking for.

As an early example, for cycles 2 – 4, customers are looking for potions suited for battling and growing. You’ve already learned that each ingredient has efficacy, such as constitution, strength, dexterity, and so forth, so we need to figure out which ones best suit the customers’ needs.

In addition to efficacy, ingredients also have characteristics, which determine the potion’s minor stats. Characteristics include endurance, steadying, warm, and so forth. You can see what an ingredient’s characteristic is by selecting it in the cauldron menu.

So, what kind of potion would be suited for battling? A potion of strength is probably a good guess. The type of potion you concoct is determined by the dominant ingredient efficacy. In this case, a strength potion would be created by concocting a potion with lots of Special Jueyun Chili added, since it has strength as its efficacy.

By the way, when you’re concocting a potion, always try to fill up the Tuning Rate meter by cramming as many ingredients in as possible; the higher the meter, the better the quality of the potion.

Lastly, if you have two efficacy values that are equal and have passed a certain threshold, you’ll concoct a combination potion, which is a balanced mixture of two efficacies. Combination potions aren’t inherently worth more, but since they can satisfy multiple types of customers, they can be extremely profitable when sold to the right market!

When you finish concocting a potion, you get to pick which bottle to put it in. You start with the regular bottle design, but you can buy bottles in special shapes from Freda. There are different kinds of bottles, but they all provide the same buff: a slight increase to potion quality, so choose whichever one you like the most.

How to Get More Potion Ingredients

The next part of a cycle is to grow more ingredients. To the right of the cauldron is your cultivation area, where you have multiple planters that can grow ingredients between cycles. Make sure to collect any matured ingredients at the start of every cycle.

You start the event with only a few ingredients, but as your alchemy increases and your shop becomes more popular, you begin unlocking more exotic ingredients.

Select a planter, then choose the ingredient you’d like to cultivate. You can see the amount of cycles needed for the ingredient to mature, and the expected quantity. You can change ingredients in the planters at any time, but be careful as this resets the cycles needed for maturity.

Initially, you only have three planters to work with, but you can buy more from Freda. In fact, you should prioritize buying more Cultivation Area Expansions with your funds, as this ensures a steady supply of ingredients.

Tips for Maximizing Profits

The final step of a cycle is to choose what potions you want to sell to the current market. If you were paying attention to the market news like Paimon and I suggested, you should have a pretty good idea of what to pick.

Once you complete a cycle and calculate profits, pay attention to what potions sold the most. Whether the market news is going to stay the same or change for the next cycle, you can use this as a basis of what potions to swap out, if any. You can access this information at any time by looking at your Financial Report inside the handbook, and you can even look at previous cycles.

Paimon will take note of what potions sold the best for different types of customers. You see those three boxes with question marks above each customer tab? They are filled in with efficacy and characteristics that are most compatible with that customer type once you discover them for the first time, serving as a helpful reminder of what to shoot for in the next batch.

The best part is that should you concoct a more compatible potion, Paimon automatically updates the customer tab accordingly, so you can stay on top of the market trends. Adapt and always aim for what the customers are seeking!

That concludes our Alchemical Ascension event guide for Genshin Impact. There’s more to the event that unveils as you progress, but as long as you’re paying attention to efficacy, characteristics, and market news, you should have no issues.
