The Shot Online franchise has been around since the launch of the Nintendo DS. It predates the Xbox 360 and the PS3, and players were strolling down its virtual fairways three years before the first proper touchscreen smartphone appeared on the scene.
But this is the first time you’ve been able to play it on your mobile phone. After a lengthy spell in soft-launch, Shot Online Golf: World Championship is finally available globally.
Developed in Korea by Webzen, Shot Online is the original and best golfing MMO. It sees you taking on human opponents in a variety of contests, or just hitting the fairway alone if you prefer your own company.
The single-player Academy lets you play on a range of courses, earning rewards, collecting prizes, clearing missions, unlocking content, and defeating bosses.
Betting Challenge, meanwhile, involves placing double or nothing bets on yourself to beat a human opponent. The more you win, the more you’ll be able to bet in future, raising the stakes to heart-stopping heights.
Then there’s Short Game, a series of ranked contests in which you have to try and hit the ball as far as you can from the tee, land it as close as possible to the pin, and get it in the hole. The higher you rank, the more rewards you’ll collect.
Like any good MMO, Shot Online Golf: World Championship is laced with RPG mechanics. You can choose your own clothes, and acquire new high tech gear to improve your performance. Naturally you can also upgrade your clubs, enhancing them to match your own playing style.
Of course, the other players in the Shot Online Golf universe are all doing the same, and many of them have been practising for years.
So you’d better hop to it! Download Shot Online Golf for free on Google Play and the App Store now.
