The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is among the most anticipated games releasing on Nintendo Switch in the future. But it is also one of the most mysterious. Despite Nintendo knowing how much fans anticipating the new game, the Japanese publisher is keeping a tight lid on the next entry in the Zelda series.

This doesn’t mean that we know absolutely nothing about the upcoming game, as trailers and interviews released have provided some solid hints on what to expect from this new adventure in Hyrule. Below, you will find everything we currently know about The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

What’s The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Final Name?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is the name that fans have given the highly anticipated game, but it’s been confirmed that it will not be the game’s final name. In an interview with IGN, Nintendo Treehouse’s Bill Trinen confirmed that the game will have a different name that has already been decided, only that it is currently being held back to avoid revealing too much about the game. Titles like A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, and Skyward Sword did indeed hint at the themes the games develop, so this isn’t very surprising.

When Was The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Announced?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 has been originally announced during the E3 2019 with a trailer featuring Link and Zelda as they explore an underground cavern and discover a corpse emitting dark smoke and light which eventually converge to form an arm of light that holds the dark at bay. Eventually, the corpse is revealed to possibly be Ganondorf’s, and the cave then suddenly collapses, hinting at the darkness coming back to threaten Hyrule once again.

How Big Will The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Be?

Given that is a direct sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is likely featuring the entirety of the Hyrule map seen featured by its predecessor. The E3 2021 trailer seems to suggest that Link will be able to explore new lands that are floating in the skies of Hyrule, so we should expect the total map of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 to be considerably bigger than the one seen in the original game.

Will Princess Zelda Be Playable In The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 2019 reveal trailer features both Link and Zelda as they explore a mysterious cave, which seemed to hint at a playable Zelda. The game’s E3 2021 trailer, however, seems to suggest Link will, once again, be the only playable character. Considering the game is still far from release, we shouldn’t put the idea of a playable Zelda aside, although the latest showing doesn’t feature any solid hint toward the matter.

When Does The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 Release?

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is currently scheduled for a 2022 release. In a press release, Nintendo highlighted that the game may come in 2022, so the Japanese publisher is currently not confident in the provided release date. As the original Breath of the Wild, as well as other entries in the series, did get delayed a couple of times, we shouldn’t be surprised if The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 gets eventually delayed to 2023.
