Elden Ring is an open-world action role-playing developed by FromSoftware and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Just like Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls, Sekiro, and the Dark Souls series, Elden Ring was directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki. The caveat here is that the game was made in collaboration with the award-winning fantasy novelist and source material creator for the highly popular Game of Thrones television show, George R. R. Martin, who provided a lot of source material for the game’s setting.
Elden Ring was released for Microsoft Windows, Steam Deck, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 25, 2022.
The Soulsborne games are known for their difficulty level, and Elden Ring is no exception. To make this more fun and to give veteran players something new to do, the Soulsborne games have been made moddable since the days of the original Demon’s Souls.
Mods
Mods are files that alter the state of a certain game to make it different, more fun, or just fix some annoying bugs that the developers did not tackle.
In the Soulsborne games, modding was enabled since the first game, giving players old and new something more to do in-game. These mods ranged from simple texture mods to sharpen the game’s visuals, to straight-up replacement mods that would change the look and functionality of a lot of weapons and armor. There were also mods released that made the players invincible, but the less said about those, the better.
So does Elden Ring follow the same route?
Is Elden Ring Moddable?
According to the words of Valve’s Greg Coomer and Pierre-Loup Friffais, the Steam Deck will absolutely have mod support, saying that because the device is essentially a PC that is handheld, it has all the same functionality of a regular PC. This feature represents something that no other hand-held console or piece of hardware has had in the past: Full Mod Support by the developers.
This indicates that Elden Ring will follow in the footsteps of the older Soulsborne games and will be moddable on the Steam Deck, so it will not just be limited to PC players! With all of the mods already available on PC, it seems that Steam Deck players will be joining in soon.
