Can You Complete the Pokedex Without Trading in Pokemon Legends: Arceus? – Answered

Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest installment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.

The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles, as was the staple of the series thus far.

As is with every Pokémon game that came before, the ultimate goal for players was to capture every Pokémon and complete the Pokedex. But there were some Pokémon that could not be acquired through normal means.

Trading Pokémon

The trading feature was added since the beginning of the Pokémon franchise. The primary purpose of trading was to facilitate players to play with each other and develop a budding multiplayer community for Pokémon fans.

And then players eventually discovered that some Pokémon could not be acquired unless they were traded with other players. The evolutions of Kadabra, Haunter, Graveler, and Machoke in Generation 1 were not accessible unless they were traded with other players via a Link Cable.

Future generations added more and more Pokémon that could only be acquired via trading, and while this appealed to some players, most of the fanbase did not like the fact that they had to rely on friends having the game just so that they could acquire those Pokémon.

While later generations added internet functionality to trading, making it much easier, players asked if the same was needed to be done to complete the Pokedex in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Completing the Pokedex

For people who don’t enjoy the trading features of Pokémon, this would come as good news, since they do not have to trade any Pokémon in order to complete the Pokedex in Legends: Arceus.

The tradable Pokémon from previous games were instead given items to hold that would let them evolve without needing to trade! Although completing the Pokedex is still no easy feat due to the research levels required for each Pokémon caught, we can’t wait to see players finally reaching their goal of a completed Pokedex!
