Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy Alchemy Guide

Crafting items is a big part of many role-playing games, but very few series made it the center of their experience as the Atelier series did. Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy is no different in this regard, featuring an Alchemy system that works great without being overly complicated like in some previous entries in the series.

Despite being more straightforward than in the past, there are still some ins and outs to learn if you want to take advantage of the Alchemy system to the fullest. Here’s everything you need to know about it.

Alchemy

The ability to create items via Alchemy is unlocked quite early in the game, and it will be the process you will be using the most during your adventure to craft all sorts of useful items.

Creating an item is very simple, as all you need to do is pick a recipe and start placing the needed ingredients into the unlocked nodes. Filling them up can potentially unlock the locked nodes in the grid, which will allow you to add more ingredients to unlock different properties or increase the effectiveness of the item you are creating. The colored rings around the nodes indicate the element of the node: while you are not required to place ingredients of the same element into the node, you can get better effects if you manage to go beyond certain thresholds by using ingredients of the same element as the ring.

Morphing

Morphing is the second skill related to item creation in Atelier Ryza 2: Lost Legends & the Secret Fairy. It is not available from the start, however, as you will need to unlock it via the skill tree.

Morphing is actually quite straightforward, as it basically lets you create different items by using the recipes you have already collected and altering some of its ingredients. The possible Morphs for each recipe is clearly indicated in both the left side list and on the nodes, so you should have no trouble creating some of these items. Once you have created one, you will also get the related recipe, so you won’t have to repeat the process more than once.

Item Rebuilding

Like Morphing, Item Rebuilding must be unlocked on the Skill Tree before becoming available. It is not as important as Alchemy or Morphing, however, so you are not required to fully understand the system to complete the game.

Item Rebuilding works pretty much like Alchemy, only that you will be recreating items already in your possession, rather than creating them from scratch using Alchemy. The process is pretty much identical to Alchemy, as you will be able to place ingredients inside nodes to alter the item’s traits. The main difference is that you will also require Gems to rebuild items, which will prevent you from abusing the system. By learning the Gem Restoration skill, you will be able to get some additional Gems by breaking down ingredients, so you’d better wait until you have unlocked this skill to get into some heavy rebuilding. It is also recommended to unlock additional Item Rebuild skills to increase the max level of rebuilt items.
