Pokémon Legends: Arceus was released last month after much fanfare and hype. It is the latest installment in the Pokémon series and takes a much different turn than its predecessors do in terms of storytelling and game mechanics.
The game takes place in the ancient Hisui region, which would become modern-day Sinnoh. Fighting and capturing Pokémon is drastically different with battles taking place on the overworld instead of turn-based instance battles, as was the staple of the series thus far.
In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the way that Pokémon spawn in the overworld is a bit different from the other games.
Pokémon Spawns
Pokémon Legends: Arceus uses a map seed system to spawn Pokémon in the overworld. Map seed refers to a number or text string that is unique and changes the map each time a new one is generated. This map seed is generated every time the player enters and leaves Jubilife Village.
Due to the new map seed system of spawning, Pokémon essentially take a few turns to respawn and generate different ones. If the player either catches or defeats certain Pokémon, that frees up space for different Pokémon to appear in its place.
This process may be tedious and time-consuming, but there is a way to speed it up, and that is by resting at camp enough that the time changes from day to night and vice versa.
Different Spawn Methods
Apart from overworld spawns, there are a few other methods that cause spawns to happen:
- Alpha Pokémon spawns
- Mass outbreaks
- Space-time distortion fields
Each of these methods has a different rate of spawning, but they guarantee a variety of Pokémon spawning whenever you encounter them!
