Use action points to get through the level!

Alabama Bones will automatically run through the levels for you. Your goal is to try to collect as many of the three idols as you can, grab the key, and head for the exit of the tomb.

As the tutorial teaches you, Alabama Bones can jump, crawl, and climb with the aid of action points. These white little buttons are the key to getting through the tomb safely, so it is important to know how they work

• Jump buttons let Bones perform a short hop. You will need this to get to higher ground and jump over spikes and obstacles.
• Climb buttons let Bones climb up ladders. You can tap again to have him climb back down. Bones will start to run in the same direction he was running in before he got on the ladder.
• Crawl buttons let Bones crawl through tight passages.
• Rope buttons let Bones grab onto swinging ropes. Tap again to jump off. The distance you travel depends on when you jump off.
• Lever buttons let Bones operate various contraptions that are nearby, such as gates, elevators, spikes, and more. Be on the lookout to see what changed!
• Stop buttons let Bones stop and wait in place. Tap again to get him moving! Use this when you need to time your movements.

Don’t worry about the golden artifacts!

Each level has three golden idols for you to collect, and they seemingly are for bragging rights only. It is not required to get a certain amount of them to unlock the later levels, as you simply need to beat the current level you are on in order to progress.

With that said, going for all three is a fun and challenging feat, and usually requires a lot more effort from you. It is one thing to grab the key and head to the exit, but it is another to grab all of the artifacts on top of all that.

If you are looking for a challenge, try to get as many artifacts as you can. If you are looking to just beat the game, do not worry about grabbing all of them.

Study the layout of the level before you run!

When Bones first enters a level, he will not start running until you tap. Take this time and try to scope out as much of the level as you can. You might not be able to see much, but try to take a mental note of all the artifacts and obstacles you can see at first.

You might have a split second to react to certain obstacles and action points, so it is better to be prepared than to run in blindly.

Beware of breakable boxes and platforms!

There will be instances where you will come across breakable platforms and boxes. You can tell them apart from their bright gray color. When you run over these platforms, they will crumble apart, making a return trip impossible. Make sure to plan your route ahead of time!

There will also be boxes and crates. You can run into these to switch your direction one time only, as they too will fall apart upon collision. Here’s a tip: whenever you see a breakable box, there is a good chance that you will NEED to use it at some point in the level, so do not waste it!

Run through the level and memorize the layout!

This might seem like an obvious thing, but it helps to remind yourself to do it. When we enter a new level for the first time, we always like to do a preliminary run.

After scouting the initial starting area, we then do a quick run through the level. Forget about the artifacts and just try to scope out how the level is laid out. With any luck, you should have an idea of what levers you need to pull and what route to take.

Practice makes perfect, as they say, so if you are having trouble with a level it helps to just remind yourself of where all of the important things are.
