Pokémon GO was a smash hit when it first came out, breaking all sorts of concurrent player records for the Pokémon franchise all over the world!
As is with every Pokémon game, players are tasked with searching for Pokémon to capture and collect, using them to battle other Pokémon, be it against the AI or against other players. The difference with Pokémon GO is that it utilizes the player’s phone GPS to find and capture Pokémon!
One major topic of discussion amongst avid collectors is which Pokémon are Shiny and how to acquire them. Here, we will talk about the Shiny version of Onix and how to get it!
Shiny Onix

Onix is a Pokémon introduced in the original 151 Pokémon from Generation 1. It is a Rock/Ground-type Pokémon and an uncommon find in the original games.
In Pokémon GO, Onix is admittedly easier to acquire, while its Shiny version may not be. Shiny Onix has a color variation from the original and although its stats aren’t affected, the Shiny version is highly coveted due to its rarity.
So how do players acquire Shiny Onix?
How to get Shiny Onix
When it comes to Shiny Pokémon in Pokémon GO, they get introduced in special events. Shiny Onix follows the same rules, being introduced to the game in the Adventure Week special event along with its evolution, Steelix!

Adventure Week 2019 introduces Shiny versions of Onix and Steelix, Lileep and Cradily, Anorith and Armaldo. Shiny Onix is a greener version of the normal Onix and they have an encounter rate of 1/450, which is much higher than the normal Shiny encounter rate!
Although Adventure Week lasted from June 4 to June 11 of 2019, new research tasks and raid bosses introduced during the event will be permanently added to the game! That includes the Shiny versions of Onix and the rest of the mentioned Pokémon, so get to collecting!
