Assimilation: Joining the Enemy Squad Detailed

Warzone 2.0 features a bunch of new game modes, including the new and interesting DMZ mode, where players have objectives that they must complete in addition to simply surviving the match.

When browsing all the new game modes, you may have noticed an intriguing tag on some of them: “assimilation”. To assimilate something is to absorb them, which got many players thinking about what this could mean. Could you possibly turn an enemy into an ally?

That’s exactly right, as Warzone 2.0 introduces a fun new mechanic called assimilation. If your squad mates are dropping like flies, and it’s looking like the end for you, you can gamble and try to plead with an enemy squad to join their ranks.

At any point, a player can open their ping wheel and prompt a nearby enemy squad for assimilation. The enemy squad can then respond positively and bring them into their group, or finish them off on the spot. Who knows what’s going to happen out there?

This also works on the flip side, as well. If you catch a squad down to its last member, you can show mercy and invite them into your group. This doesn’t necessarily mean they’re going to accept, so be on your toes!

There are two types of assimilation: refill and expanded. Refill assimilation lets you fill your squad back up to the normal cap—for example, if you start a quads match and lose two squad mates, you can invite up to two enemies to join your squad.

Expanded assimilation lets you invite past the normal squad cap, letting you create a massive squad of up to six players! Currently, the only game mode that features expanded assimilation is the Unhinged BR Trios mode.

That concludes our guide on Warzone 2’s new “request to join enemy squad” assimilation mechanic. This new assimilation mechanic should create some interesting scenarios where player politics come into play. What do you think about this new mechanic? Let us know in the comments below!
