This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

The Shiny Charm is a special item that has existed in the mainline Pokémon games since Pokémon Black and White 2. Today, we’ll show you how the Shiny Charm works in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl!

How Does the Shiny Charm Work?

The Shiny Charm is a special item that has been in many of the mainline Pokémon games. With the Shiny Charm in your inventory, the chances of getting a shiny Pokémon from a hatched egg are increased. Normally, the chance of hatching a shiny Pokémon is 1 in 4,096, but the Shiny Charm increases your odds to 1 in 2,048!

The Shiny Charm is also the mark of a seasoned Trainer, as in order to obtain one, you’ll need to complete the game’s National Pokédex. This means that you’ll need to own every single Pokémon in the game, excluding legendaries!

Obviously this is quite the task, but you can do it with enough patience! Once you complete the main story in Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl and have seen all 150 Sinnoh Pokémon, the National Dex will unlock. You don’t have to manually catch all national Pokémon, thankfully—you can trade with friends or online, which should make things a little easier. Do note that, as always, there are version-specific Pokémon, so you’ll need to do some trading.

Once you have officially completed the National Dex, head to the Hotel Grand Lake on Route 213. On the west side of the Valor Lakefront area, there’s a small house with two men inside. Talk to them and you’ll discover that they’re actually Game Directors! The one on the right will give you the Shiny Charm once you’ve completed the National Dex.

With the Shiny Charm in hand, you can now hunt for shiny Pokémon from eggs. As we mentioned, the Shiny Charm only affects the chances from egg Pokémon, though it remains to be seen if this is intentional or not. It is rather odd as this is not how the Shiny Charm functioned in earlier Pokémon games, so it may be addressed in a future update.
