Among the endless optional content to tackle in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is the Ruin Maniac and his challenge. But reaching to him and finishing his challenge is no easy feat.

Ruin Maniac’s Challenge
When you enter the Ruin Maniac Cave on Route 214, you will find the Ruin Maniac digging through the cave, who will challenge you to a race once you speak to him.
He challenges you to collect 26 different Unown while he continues digging through the cave, to see who gets their task completed first. Unowns are located in Solaceon Ruins, which can be found east of Solaceon Town.
How to Reach Solaceon Ruins
On first glance, reaching Solaceon Ruins may look visually daunting, but it’s pretty simple. Follow these exact steps:
- Enter Solaceon Town.
- Head north of the town.
- Just before entering Route 210, turn right.
- In this forested area filled with ledges, keep going right.
- You will eventually reach the last ledge.
- Jump over the 2 ledges and then the right ledge.
This should bring you straight to the entrance of Solaceon Ruins.
The Unowns within Solaceon Ruins are between levels 17 and 24, so make sure to get Pokemon who aren’t over-leveled, as one-hit killing them may be an issue.
6 out of the 26 Unown can only be found in each of the 6 large rooms in Solaceon Ruins. Once you capture all 26 Unown, head back to Ruin Maniac Cave to notice its name changed to Maniac Tunnel.
Head to the end of the tunnel to find the Ruin Maniac along with a new entrance to Solaceon Ruins. This entrance leads you to a room where you get the special Exclamation Mark and Question Mark Unowns.
