In our Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes tips and tricks guide, we will go over the various mechanics of the battle system. While the battle mechanics seem simple at first, there is a lot of nuance. We will also go over training your shinobi and how to power them up quickly, so let’s get started with our Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes tips and tricks strategy guide to building the ultimate shinobi team!

Fighting Battles Effectively

Battles in Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes plays out in a turn-based fashion. The team that acts first is determined by the total speed added up by all three of your shinobi. Early on, this is not really something you need to worry about as you will almost always go first, but it is something to keep in mind.

When it is your turn, you will presented with your three current members. Tap on the shinobi you want to attack, and if there are any matching shinobi types they will attack as a team. As such, you want to try to match colors of shinobi. There are three colors: red, blue, and yellow, each pertaining to a type. Red beats yellow, yellow beats blue, and blue beats red!

You can choose who you want to target, and your shinobi will automatically target new enemies if one of them is defeated. Some shinobis will attack the entire time as well, so keep that in mind.

As your shinobi fight, their chakra gauge will fill up (the blue meter below their health bar). When it is full, they can unleash their special skills that can deal big damage to the enemies or heal allies.

Unleash Tribe Specials

As you learned from the tutorial, Tribe Specials are ultra powerful attacks that can destroy an entire team in one hit. We will clear over some stuff about it here. As you fight, the tribe meter will fill up. It will fill up faster if you start a turn with a 3-man cell of the same type!

The Tribe Specials available to you are determined by the shinobi you have on your team. You need to check through the Tribe Specials list and cross reference with the shinobis you own. All Tribe Specials have different effects, but in general most of them do massive damage to the enemy team. Try to build up the tribe meter as fast as you can!

On the flip side, if the enemy team unleashes their Tribe Special on you, that is VERY bad. To prevent this, try to target key members of the enemy team. If a shinobi that is part of a Tribe Special is defeated, the team CANNOT perform that special anymore. This goes double for yourself – protect your most important shinobi!

Manipulate the Turn Order

When you use shinobi in your current line up, they will go to the back of the line. You can see your back up line at the bottom of the screen – the rightmost shinobi is the one that will enter your current lineup next turn.

From everything you have read so far, fighting effectively is all about manipulating the turn order so that you can get 3-hit combos out as much as possible, which in turn means more Tribe Specials.

When choosing which shinobi to attack, consider a few things: look at their types and see if you can hit their weaknesses, and see if you can change up the lineup to match types and grant yourself a 3-hit combo next turn. Do not just attack randomly!

Not only does this train you to be a better fighter, but many of the mission requirements to earn all three stars is to pull off at least one 3-hit combo, and you will not do this if you pick your shinobi randomly.

Enhancing your Shinobi

Your shinobi will power up with experience as they fight through battles. When they gain enough experience, they will level up, granting a small boost to their stats. You can also use experience potions on them to level them up faster.

The main way of enhancing your shinobi is through promotion and skills. As you play through the main story, you will earn leaf tokens to “promote” your shinobi. Promoting a shinobi will bump them up a tier, and this will grant them a big boost to their base stats. Do this to your favorite shinobi as much as possible!

The next thing to deal with are skills. Skills are your shinobi’s attacks and special attacks, so they are the core parts of your team. Improving a skill simply takes a few ryo (the main currency) and a skill point. You have 20 skill points, and each level costs a single skill point. They will regenerate on their own overtime, so do not worry about saving them. Keep in mind that skills can only go up to the level of the shinobi!

The last basic thing to do is to check your shinobi’s gear. Each shinobi has four gear slots, and you can upgrade their gear with ryo and certain materials. This is the final step before the biggest form of enhancement!

Saving the best for last, awakening your shinobi is the biggest step of them all. When you have enough fragments of a shinobi, you can awaken them, which will will add one star to their rarity and grant them a huge stat boost. You can only do this so often, and we will show you how to get more shinobi fragments later.

So, to recap, powering up your shinobis involves leveling them up, upgrading their skills, tiers, and gear, and using fragments to awaken them.

Head into the Elite Missions for Fragments

You will unlock the elite missions soon after clearing chapter 1. The elite missions, as the name suggests, pit you against much tougher foes but with even greater rewards. Each elite mission has a one-time open box that contains plenty of shinobi fragments for you to use.

Elite missions are divided into chapters just like the regular missions, so do not worry if you do not see your favorite shinobis right away, you will get to them eventually. Just remember that the future missions get exponentially harder than the regular missions do, so make sure your team is prepared!

The best part is that all of these levels are replayable and skippable just like the regular missions, making it very easy to farm up a specific fragment. If you are looking to awaken, the elite missions is the place to be!

Utilize your Three Sub Teams

This is not something you need to worry about until much later, but you may have noticed that there are three subteams when you are looking at your full group composition. You can put shinobis wherever you want, but at player level 32 you will unlock the full potential of your teams.

Each subteam provides different bonuses to the shinobi assigned to them. Force grants an attack bonus, spirit grants an HP bonus, and energy grants a defense bonus. Only the shinobi on the respective team get the bonus, so consider who you are placing where.

That’s all for Naruto X Boruto Ninja Tribes! Farm missions using the skip option, enhance all parts of your shinobi, and create the ultimate team. If you have any other tips or tricks to share, let us know in the comments below.
