Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX: How Long to Beat

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

While the Pokemon series is the one that started the monster collecting trend in gaming, it isn’t the only video game franchise built around these mechanics. Many years ago, Tecmo tried its hand at something similar with the Monster Rancher series, releasing two games that came with some very unique features, such as the ability to generate in-game monsters by using real music CDs.

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX

Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX includes, as the name implies, the two entries in the series originally released on the first PlayStation back in the late 90s. As it’s actually two games, it may take you a while to complete both of them fully.

For a regular playthrough with little side content completed, Monster Rancher 1 will require between 15 and 20 hours, depending on your pace, while Monster Rancher 2 will require around 20, 22 hours, as the game is a little bigger than its predecessor, but not by much. As such, it may take over 40 hours to experience the bare minimum of what both games have to offer.

If you are looking to fully complete Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX, you will have to spend a few additional hours with both titles. To see everything the first Monster Rancher has to offer, you will need around 23 hours, while you will need 25 hours or more to fully complete the second game, for a total of over 50 hours. This is not a bad total playtime at all, considering Monster Rancher 1 & 2 DX includes two old games that come from an era where games weren’t as massive as modern RPGs and simulation games.
