Illusion Connect: How to create a team

– You really want to make a team based on the units that a Leader requires, rather than what is “strong”. (For example, if you don’t have Yuffie but want to play a Sorcerer team, it might be quite difficult to make a really strong Sorcerer team, because Yuffie’s passive grants them a lot of AoE damage.)

– Depending on what units you get at the beginning, you should try to build a team around them and not waste resources on random units.

– Remember that the most important member of your party is the Leader – if he dies, you lost.

– It might not seem like much at start, but later on every single Leader passive will be super important towards finishing a stage.

– Don’t worry about having over the max Energy at start, after you’ve upgraded Muscipula you won’t have this issue anymore.

– Each unit has a certain role in the party. Some will be the front line, some will be the DPS, and others will be the supports (Healers, Rikia for the debuff removal, Mary for increased DMG, Ann for increased DMG and DMG RES, etc.)

– Don’t worry too much about the Collect X % of X-Class partners passive. In time, you’ll collect all the units you need to keep this passive activated. Although if they keep adding unique units, it might be quite difficult for newer players who’ve missed some premium passes, limited event summons and such to activate these passives.

Sakura Swordsman

Acquired by: Starter Leader

It’s a good, all-rounded Leader, that can work in most situations, and has good synergy with the units you can obtain for free. To fully activate this Leader’s potential, you should try to obtain Phoebe (either through Arcana or $1 pack).

This leader will start getting stronger towards the later stages of the game after you’ve upgraded Nina, Saya, and Victoria. Also, it’s a nice little benefit knowing that you can complete Miracle Dream Theatre with the units that synergize with this leader.

Activation Effect: After allied partners show up, increases DMG Rate by 15% for 2 rounds.

Nightmare Hunter

Acquired by: Claim 24 stars in Collapsed Dreams 6: Death Mist

The playstyle of this leader is somewhat different than the first one. The Nightmare Hunter is more like an assassin-type of unit, and focuses mostly on Leader DMG. This leader works great with Attackers, such as Maki and Gigi, and of course, Kasumi.

Most of the units that synergize with Nightmare Hunter have a low Energy cost, compared to Spirit Healer or Soul Reaper, who require units that can be quite costly. The result is a very fast playstyle, since you will be able to deploy units quite quickly.

Passive Skills:

Leader Killer: Activation Requirement: the Lineup’s average Energy is less than 14.
Activation Effect: increases allied partner’s DMG against enemy Leader by 30%
Shadow Raid: Activation Requirement: deploy Maki or Gigi.

Legendary Partner: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 5 SSR partners.

Active Skills:

Dimensional Execution: Hunter summons cannon fire from the sky, attacking targets in the same column as the enemy Leader. The first target takes 420% ATK DMG, with subsequent units receiving 30% less DMG. DEF of all targets decreases by 30%, the effect lasts 3 rounds.
Fading Light: Hunter uses Felfire Cannon to lock onto enemy Leader, dealing 600% ATK DMG to enemy Leader, attack ignores 40% of target DEF.
Malice: Hunter rouses Power of Bloodlust in allied partners, granting 30% ATK to all Ally partners, who instantly launch a 1 round attack.

Sacred Ray: Rampart emits a ferocious roar, gaining a shield that can absorb DMG equal to 40% HP Max. The effect lasts 3 rounds. Taunts all enemy units while the shield is in effect. Taunt: forces all targets to attack the taunter.

Soul Reaper

Acquired by: Claim 60 stars in Collapsed Dreams 14: Truth

This leader is one of the best at the moment since the Sorcerer team is meta. For Soul Reaper to really shine through, you really need Yuffie. Her passive will give you an additional 16.5% AoE DMG for all Sorcerers, and 33% for Yuffie herself (that’s a lot).

Although this team composition is not super tanky (compared to Light Paladin, Spirit Healer or Sakura Swordsman), it will have enough survivability thanks to the Soul Bind active skills, that makes the leader invincible and immune to all crowd control effects (except for Miyuki’s Rage drain).

Passive Skills:

Magic Power: Activation Requirement: Deploy at least 5 Sorcerer partners.
Activation Effect: Increase allied partners AOE DMG by 25%.
Immortal Body: Activation Requirement: deploy Yuffie or Annie.
Activation Effect: When the battle begins, increases Leader DMG RES Rate by 35% for 5 rounds.
All-round Class: Activation Requirement: Each class except Sorcerer has only 1 partner in the team.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners ATK by 8% and CRIT Rate by 8%.
Curse Fusion: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 3 Spell and Light partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners ATK by 8% and HP by 8%.
Magic Society: Activation Requirement: collect 80% of Sorcerer partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners ATK by 15%.
Legendary Partner: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 5 SSR partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners’ HP by 15%.

Active Skills:

Phantom Call: Soul Bind releases phantom from soul coffin, dealing 280% ATK DMG to all enemy units and increasing user’s CRIT by 50%.
Soul Bind: Soul Bind seals soul inside a soul coffin, becoming invincible and restoring 10% HP Max per round for 2 rounds. Invincible: immune to all DMG, the effect cannot be dispelled or stolen.
Soul Fetters: Soul Bind transforms the sealed soul into an eviscerating chain, increasing AOE DMG to all enemy units by 20% for 2 rounds. At the same time, all units have a 100% chance of Freezing for 1 round.

Spirit Healer

Acquired by: Claim 60 stars in Collapsed Dreams 16: Truth

This leader is exactly the opposite of pretty much all the other leaders. It’s got a really slow playstyle, and you need to really think about every unit before deploying it (to benefit from the Invincible buffs from Phoebe or shield from Kiraya).

The team composition you can make with the Spirit Healer can be extremely fun to play, tanky, but will need a little bit of investment, since Kiraya will be the main front line (so you ideally want her 5*-6*).

I would argue that it’s a fairly difficult team to play, and needs a little bit of getting used to. There are tons of fun things you can do, such as deploying Amon, Phoebe and Diamond for unlimited invincible.

Passive Skills:

Dream Blessing: Activation Requirement: Deploy at least 5 Light and Heal partners.
Activation Effect: After allied partners show up, gains a shield whose HP is equal to 20% of self HP.
Spirit Messenger: Activation Requirement: deploy Phoebe or Kiraya.
Activation Effect: After allied partners take action, restore 10% HP.
Power of Protection: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 3 Guardian partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners ATK by 6% and DEF by 20%.
Soul Linking: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 3 Summon partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners ATK by 6% and HP by 10%.
Holy Council: Activation Requirement: collect 80% of Light and Heal partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners ATK by 15%.
Legendary Partner: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 5 SSR partners.
Activation Effect: increases allied partners’ HP by 15%.

Active Skills:

Primitive Guard: Forest Sprite calls forth the Spirit of the Ancients, dealing 300% ATK DMG to all enemy units, and increasing DMG RES of all Ally partners by 30%, effect lasts for 2 rounds.
Revive: Forest Sprite unleashes the Strength of the Ancients, restoring HP equal to 150% ATK to all Ally units, and dispelling 1 debuff from every unit.
Laws of Nature: Forest Sprite uses the Strength if the Ancients to restore Weakened companions to original status, returning the Ally partner with the lowest HP to the hand, deducting 1 Energy, and increasing HP Max by 70%.

Axe of Dawn

Acquired by: Claim 60 stars in Collapsed Dreams 18: Barrier

Axe of Dawn is a Leader that mainly focuses on the Light trait. It’s got a Rage bar that keeps filling up over time, which means that you’ll be able to use her as a main damage dealer soon enough. Although she doesn’t have a lot of survivability, she is able to deal decent damage.

Her skills are great for single target damage, and if you deploy the right units, her damage can stack infinitely (which is kinda crazy if you think about it).

Passive skills:

Victory Sound: Activation requirement: Have 10 partners in the lineup.
Activation effect: Axe of Dawn restores 12 Rage per second.
Partner of Justice: Activation requirement: Deploy Phoebe or Charlotte.
Activation effect: When an allied partner joins the battle, increases Leader’s DMG Rate by 8%. Can be stacked indefinitely (once per partner only).
Assault Bugle: Activation requirement: Deploy at least 4 Light partners.
Activation effect: When Axe of Dawn uses Unique Skill, all partners in the lineup gain 12% of Leader’s ATK. Can be stacked indefinitely.
Humble Bloodline: Activation requirement: Deploy at least 3 partners with not more than 12 Energy.
Activation effect: Increases ATK by 10%, DEF by 10% and Max HP by 10% for all allied partners and Leader.
Bright Future: Activation requirement: Collect 80% of Light partners.
Activation effect: Increases ATK by 15% and DEF by 15% for all allied partners and Leader.
Legendary Partner: Activation Requirement: deploy at least 5 SSR partners.
Activation Effect: increases HP by 15% for all allied partners and Leader.

Active skills:

Verdict of Truth: Dawn swings her axe furiously, dealing ATK*500% DMG to an enemy. For every stack of Brilliance that Dawn has, she deals additional True damage equal to 10% of target’s Max HP.
Divine Punishment: Dawn bashes the ground to create a huge shock, dealing ATK*500% damage to a column of enemies. For every stack of Brilliance she has, 15% of damage is converted to True damage.
Power of Dawn: Axe of Dawn unleashes explosive divine power, granting 1 stack of Brilliance, which increases ATK by 30% and restores 12 Rage per second. Cannot be dispelled or stolen. Up to 6 stacks.
