How to Upgrade Porygon in Pokemon Go: Tips and Cheats

This article is over 2 years old and may contain outdated information

Porygon is a Pokémon created entirely out of code. Since this Pokémon isn’t a naturally existing Pokémon, it follows different rules and one of them is its curious evolutionary process.

How to evolve Porygon

Just as it was in the older Pokémon games, evolving Porygon works a bit differently than it does with most other Pokémon. Because Porygon is an artificial Pokémon, the way it evolves does not follow normal evolutionary rules as well.

In this case, Pokémon upgrades to Porygon 2 with the help of the item simply known as Up-Grade. Once this item is acquired though, Porygon does evolve in a way similar to other Pokémon.

How to upgrade Porygon into Porygon 2 in Pokémon GO

Porygon requires two things to evolve/upgrade into Porygon 2:

  • Up-Grade item
  • 50 Porygon candy

Getting Porygon candy involves a matter of patience because all the player has to do is to keep catching more Porygon. It tends to be a little more tedious than normal because Porygon is pretty rare to come across generally. Luckily, there are in-game events that allow the player to Porygon more easily.

Once this is achieved, the player needs to find the Up-Grade item to use on Porygon.

How to acquire Up-Grade in Pokémon GO

The Up-Grade item generally takes some more work to actually acquire, because this item only spawns as a random drop item that takes place at Pokéstops, which is similar to other evolutionary items like evolutionary stones.

If the player extends their Pokéstop daily bonus streak to seven days, an evolutionary item will drop. While the drop may be random, there are only five of these in the game, giving the player a 20% chance of claiming it!
