How Does Boss Rush Work in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

The Boss Rush Challenge pits you against bosses you have fought in the main story, challenging you to fight and defeat them without using items from the Adventure Pouch. The more bosses you will be able to take down, the better the rewards you will obtain.

The order of the bosses you will face is somewhat random. You can pick the period of the journey you want to start from and the starting boss, but all the others will be randomized. Three bosses, the Bokonlin Horde, Ghirahim, and Demise are only available in Hero Mode.
