How to Befriend and Tame Andrewsarchus in ARK: Survival Evolved

Before you set out to befriend and tame an Andrewsarchus, you’re going to need Giant Bee Honey. You can harvest Giant Bee Honey from wild or domesticated Bee Hives, but be careful around wild hives as Giant Bees may attack you. You can also harvest honey with a tamed Dire Bear, which is a much more efficient method.

With Giant Bee Honey in hand, it’s time to hunt down an Andrewsarchus. On this map, the green boxes are the hotspots where you’re most likely to encounter an Andrewsarchus, according to the official ARK: Survival Evolved wiki.

Once you find an Andrewsarchus, make sure to keep your distance, as they’re aggressive and will charge you if you get too close. If you encounter a group, make sure to take out the other ones and single out the one you want to tame, as they could cause problems.

When you’re ready, toss your Giant Bee Honey near the Andrewsarchus. It will start to eat the honey, so sneak up and mount it. Get ready, as this will initiate a mini-game where you need to keep your balance on the Andrewsarchus while it tries to buck you off!

Two transparent arrows will appear near the center of the screen. Your goal is to move in the corresponding direction when either arrow turns white. For example, if the left arrow turns white, start moving left.

Keep moving in that direction, and you should see the arrow turn green with a checkmark. Continue to hold the direction until it turns red, then immediately let go. The Andrewsarchus’ taming progress will increase whenever you’re holding a green direction, so repeat this process until it’s tamed.

Move in the direction of the white arrow to fill up the taming progress.

If you miss too many white arrows, move in the wrong direction too many times, or if you just take too long, you’ll be bucked off. If this happens, run away until the Andrewsarchus stops chasing, then toss another Giant Bee Honey to start the process once more. The Andrewsarchus will keep its taming progress, so you don’t have to worry about starting from scratch every time you’re bucked off.

Here’s a good tip: keep an eye on the red meter behind the taming progress bar. When it fills up all the way, the Andrewsarchus will buck you off and immediately attack. If you dismount manually before the red meter fills up all the way, you have some time to back off before the Andrewsarchus becomes hostile, making it easier to restart the process.

Once you’ve tamed an Andrewsarchus, you can craft the Andrewsarchus Saddle at the Refining Forge. The saddle has a mounted minigun attached to it, which can fire Advanced Rifle Ammo.

That concludes our guide on how to tame Andrewsarchus in ARK: Survival Evolved. This is probably the most laborious taming process of the new Fjordur creatures, so have some patience with you before you start.
