How to Ride Monsties in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

Riding monsters is one of the gameplay mechanics that best define the Monster Hunter series, so it is not surprising to see that it’s possible to ride your Monstie companions in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin. Riding a monster in the game not only increases your stats, but it comes with some additional benefits that can make all of the game’s most difficult fights considerably easier.

How to Ride Monsties in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin

To ride any Monstie in your active party, all you need to do is fill the Kinship Gauge to the max. To do so, you will have to attack the enemy, and the more an enemy is attacked, the more the gauge is filled. Performing double attacks increases it by a vast amount, so make sure to strategize properly to have the gauge filled and ready to go if needed.

Once the Kinship Gauge has been filled, you can ride your Monstie at any time. When doing so, you will get your character’s health fully restored as well as increased attack and defense and the chance of unleashing a powerful special attack that depletes the Kinship Gauge. Due to its restorative properties, it’s usually a good idea in boss battles to fill the Kinship Gauge and then wait until your health is almost depleted to restore it by riding your Monstie.
