How to Polish Your Gym Badges In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl have brought back a feature from the old Nintendo DS touch screen. Pokemon fans who had the old DS games will remember this feature well and, although it doesn’t offer anything more than a feel-good aesthetic, it is a cool aspect of the game! Players can now polish their Gym Badges! How cool is that?!

Gym Badges are collected throughout the games by defeating Gym Leaders in a Pokemon battle. When you have defeated the Gym Leader the Gym Badge can be found in your Trainer Card. There are a total of 8 Gym Badges to collect in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl:

  • Coal – Rock type Pokemon
  • Forest – Grass type Pokemon
  • Cobble – Fighting type Pokemon
  • Fen – Water type Pokemon
  • Relic – Ghost type Pokemon
  • Mine – Steel type Pokemon
  • Icicle – Ice type Pokemon
  • Beacon – Electric type Pokemon

After you have defeated those Gym Leaders you then go on to battle the Elite Four – Aaron, Bertha, Flint, Lucian- and the Champion, Cynthia.

In the older games players discovered that they could use their stylus to tap the badges and make a metallic ‘ping!’ sound. They then found that if they rubbed the stylus across each badge it made a ‘squeaky’ sound and the badges became really shiny! Excitingly, you can do this with touchscreen mode on your Nintendo Switch.

In Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl polishing badges is now a feature in touchscreen mode. Open your Trainer Card, tap ‘View Badges’ and get polishing. Rub your finger around on each badge to make a squeaking sound until the colours shine through and sparkles appear!

You can also tap and hold each Gym Badge to hold and rotate them, viewing them individually.
