In some regards, Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin feels more like a Pokémon game rather than a Monster Hunter title. Sure, you will be encountering a lot of familiar faces during your adventure, but you will not be fighting them all the time, as the monsters, called Monsties in this game, will join your party and help you face all the challenges ahead.
Here’s how to make the best of Monsties in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
How to Level Up Monsties in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin
Monsties in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin level up pretty much like your main character and other humanoid companions do: fight monsters, complete quests, obtain enough EXP and automatically level up. Things, however, are made a little more complicated by the fact that Monsties cannot equip weapons or armor, something that limits their combat options.
Thankfully, the game provides a system that lets you customize your Monsties in a lot of different ways. This system, which is similar to the Fusion system seen in the Shin Megami Tensei games, including the Persona series, is called the Rite of Channeling.
What’s the Rite of Channeling?
The Rite of Channeling, which can be initiated in Stables, allows you to take the Genes of a Monstie and let another inherit them. The Monstie that is “donating” the Genes, however, will have to be sacrificed. All Monsties have a total of 9 Gene slots, so the customization options are rather big.
Placing the Genes into the Gene Slots properly is extremely important to unlock the Bingo Bonuses. These bonuses provide some more abilities that can power up the Monstie considerably. To fully take advantage of this system, you will need to unlock all Gene Slots, so do not hesitate to use Ritual Items to do so for your favorite Monsties: the Rite of Channeling can make all Monsties viable for the entire adventure so do not hold back and experiment to your heart’s content!
