How to Catch Mesprit in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Before you can try to catch Mesprit, you need to let it begin roaming in the wild. To do this, just:

1. Visit Lake Verity.
2. Surf to the middle island and enter the cave.
3. Speak to Mesprit.

Once you’ve done this, Mesprit will flee into the overworld where you can track it down and capture it, but doing exactly that is a tall order. First, you need to make sure you have the Marking Map Poketch app in your possession.

To do this, just head to Jubilife City and enter the Northwest building. Talk to the President (man with a mustache) a couple of times to receive the Poketch app called the Marking Map. This is what will let you track down Mesprit on your quest to capture it.

Mesprit will change its locations every time you enter or exit an area in the overworld, like a different city or a route. You need to make sure it appears in the same area as you are when you enter it. The chance of this happening is completely random.

The best bet for you to make this happen is simply moving between 2 different adjacent routes, checking for Mesprit’s location every time you enter the new route. Route 210 & 215, Route 216 and 217 are two solid combinations that you can try for this technique.

You are bound to encounter Mesprit sooner or later with this method. Once you see it in the same location as you with your Marking Map, simply enter into a wild Pokemon encounter to face Mesprit.

Now, Mesprit will flee as soon as it can, so capturing it can be troublesome as I’m sure you don’t want to repeat the entire process of encountering it. So the best tip to catch Mesprit is leading with a Pokemon that knows the move Mean Look.

Once your Pokemon uses Mean Look on Mesprit, it can no longer escape, and you will have ample options to weaken and capture it. We recommend using Jinx for this, as it learns Mean Look while resisting all of Mesprit’s hits, while being able to put it to sleep using Lovely Kiss.
