How to Fish in Terraria
Before you stick your angler into just about any body of water, you need to make sure that it is at least 75 tiles deep. Once you’ve found a fishing spot which fulfills that requirement, you can follow the steps below:
- Get close to the water
- Open your inventory
- Place your fishing rod in the hot bar
- Choose some bait and place it in an ammo slot below the inventory
- Now, select the rod in the hot bar
- Position your cursor on top of the water
- Press the action button
- Once the bobber starts moving, press the action button again

How to Fish in Lava in Terraria
Yeah, Terraria also allows you to fish in pools of lava found in the game, but doing this has a few special requirements:
- You need to obtain the Hotline Fishing Hook pole: you can get this by finishing at least 25 fishing quests.
- You need bait such as Lavafly, Hell Butterflies, and Magma Snails: you can catch these baits in the underworld using golden or lava-proof bug nets.
- You finally need a lava-proof fishing hook: this can be gotten in Hellstone or Obsidian Crates.
Once you have these, you need to follow the same method of fishing as you did with normal bodies of water, while replacing some of the items used with the lava-fishing items listed above.
