Darkest Dungeon 2 is a world full of death and despair, so some heroes choose to bring a furry companion with them on their travels, as it is the only source of refuge from the dark road ahead. Pets in Darkest Dungeon 2 can be unlocked and equipped to your Stagecoach to active special buffs and bonuses. Here is how to equip pets in Darkest Dungeon 2.

Equipping Pets in Darkest Dungeon 2

Pets are a new type of item introduced in Darkest Dungeon 2 that grant your expedition positive buffs. Pets must be unlocked through the Companionship category, found in the Altar of Hope – The Intrepid Coast, before they become available for purchase. The more Candles of Hope you spend in Companionship, the more Pets become available for purchase.

At the starting Inn’s Provisioner, up to three unlocked Pets will randomly show up in the shop. Each Pet has its own unique buffs; for example, the Pygmy Pliskin increases healing from skills by 10% per Medical Gear item equipped. In addition, a random hero is healed for 10% of their health after every location.

Before you decide on which Pet to bring along with you, there are a few things you should keep in mind. You can only equip one Pet to your Stagecoach, so try to pick a Pet that compliments the kind of play style you are going for. In addition, Pets cannot be unequipped until the expedition is over.

When you have decided on a Pet, purchase it from the Provisioner at the starting Inn. Switch to the Wainwright, then click and drag your Pet from the Stagecoach inventory to the designated slot, as seen below.

Once you equip your Pet to the Stagecoach, the game warns you that once equipped, the Pet cannot be removed until the end of the expedition. Click on accept, and your Pet is now equipped. With any luck, the journey ahead should be a little less bleak now.
