The world of The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is extremely big, but it seems like the developers thought that exploring the skies wasn’t really enough, as they have added the ability to dive underwater to further explore this world. While this ability isn’t available right from the start of the game, you will need to master it nonetheless as quickly as possible to find more secrets and clear select dungeons.

Before you can start diving underwater, you will need to get the Water Dragon’s Scale. To get this item, you will have to complete the Silent Realm in Faron Woods. Once you do, the Water Dragon’s Scale will be equipped automatically and thus its effects will be active at all times.

To dive into the water, look for any ledge and hold the B button to run towards it and make Link dive. Once in the water, all you need to do is press the A button to swim and the right stick on your Joy-Con to move in your desired direction. Always keep an eye on your oxygen meter, and refill it with the bubbles that can be found all over the underwater locations.

In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, Link can also dive in the sky, and summon the Loftwing for a spectacular sequence. You can do this by pressing the B button while heading towards any ledge and press the down button on the directional pad once in the sky to summon the Loftwing.
