Hogwarts Legacy, the highly anticipated open-world game that lets you explore the famous Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry from the acclaimed Harry Potter franchise is finally here and has received nothing short of praise so far.
Since Hogwarts Legacy is still a relatively new game, there’s a lot to unpack if you’re just starting the game or planning on getting it. So whether you’re playing the game on PlayStation 4 or 5, we’ve explained the difference between both consoles in this brief guide.
Hogwarts Legacy on PS4 vs Ps5 – Differences Explained
One of the main things to consider when choosing a platform for Hogwarts Legacy is the release dates. For PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the game is scheduled to launch on February 10 with a Deluxe Edition that’ll give players three-day access starting from February 7.
However, if you own a PS4 or Xbox One you won’t be able to buy the game on February 10 and must be patient until April 4 when it comes available on the respective consoles. In addition, Nintendo Switch users will also be unable to play the game until July 25, so if you’re really excited to play the game and you don’t want to wait for weeks or months, then it’s best you get the game for PS5 Xbox Series X|S or PC.
Another reason is the Felix Felicis Potion recipe pre-order reward that’ll be gifted to players who pre-order the game on PlayStation 4 or 5. The Haunted Hogsmeade Shop quest is another PlayStation-exclusive perk that you’ll be given when the game launches globally. And although this may not appeal to many players compared to other resources like outfits, it’ll certainly excite players who enjoy earning bonus items in such games.

Difference in Cost
This is easily the biggest that a lot of players will focus on when deciding on which platform to play Hogwarts Legacy. The game’s standard edition costs $59.99 on PS4 and costs $69.99 on PS5. If you’re going for the Deluxe Edition, you’ll be paying $79.99 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Ultimately, the console you currently own (be it a PS4 or PS5) will determine how you’ll experience the game. If you have the PlayStation 4 and you have the means to upgrade to PlayStation 5, then why not! You’ll be able to play Hogwarts Legacy and a lot of high graphics titles early and in some cases exclusively.
For now, Hogwarts Legacy is scheduled to launch globally on PC (via Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
