Everything We Know About Stardew Valley Creator’s New Game ‘Haunted Chocolatier’

Here's everything we know about ConcernedApe's latest game, Haunted Chocolatier.

Back in October 2021, ConcernedApe, the creator of the indie darling Stardew Valley, revealed his next project: Haunted Chocolatier, a brand-new action RPG with simulation elements. Though bearing some resemblances to Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe has assured us that this will be a whole different experience. Here is everything we know about Stardew Valley creator’s new game, Haunted Chocolatier!

All Known Details About ConcernedApe’s Haunted Chocolatier

Haunted Chocolatier is an upcoming single player action RPG game with town simulation elements, similar to Stardew Valley. The game is still in heavy development, and as such it currently does not have a release date, as ConcernedApe is working on the game solo at the moment.

Here’s the official early gameplay trailer.

You’re probably thinking, “Wait a minute, this looks exactly like Stardew Valley,” and you’re absolutely right—Haunted Chocolatier will be sporting the same pixel art style as Stardew Valley.

The premise is even almost the same, as well. You’re a fledging Chocolatier who moves to a new town in order to befriend the locals and hopefully start up a new chocolate business. You decide to set up shop in an abandoned castle that feels a little spooky…

The similarities end there, though, as Haunted Chocolatier has a much greater focus on combat and exploration than Stardew Valley. In order to cook up delicious chocolate, you’ll need to head out into the magical world, to scavenge for raw ingredients.

Some ingredients will even be held captive by monsters, so you’ll need to be prepared for a fight. Though the combat is still early, ConcernedApe plans on making it much more involved than Stardew Valley’s simple hack and slash approach.

For example, one early mechanic ConcernedApe showed off are shields. You can now equip and hold out shields to block incoming attacks, which will stun enemies, rendering them vulnerable to counterattacks.

Once you’ve collected your ingredients, head back to your kitchen and start whipping up some sweet chocolate. We’re not sure yet if you’ll be able to mix ingredients freely, or if you have to follow strict recipes.

Of course, you’ll need to make your store appealing, so you have full control over what your storefront looks like. Change colors, add furniture, it’s all up to you.

And when it times to open shop, your little otherworldly ghost friends will help take care of things for you. Stardew Valley dabbled in the supernatural here and there, but Haunted Chocolatier is going all-in with the fantastical elements.

ConcernedApe is a developer that loves to keep things a secret and prefers players discover things on their own, so he doesn’t post that many updates on the official Haunted Chocolatier website. Sometimes he posts fun stuff on his Twitter account, though.

That covers just about everything we know so far about Haunted Chocolatier. Stay tuned for more updates!
