Everything We Know About Hearthstone’s Year of the Hydra Update

The Year of the Hydra will begin with the launch of ‘Voyage to the Sunken City’ on April 12, 2022. This year, the game’s efforts will focus more on enriching and improving existing systems than on creating new game modes. This means that you will see some comfort changes coming, such as a random model option and an in-game report functionality, as well as better overall performance.

All Crucial Changes in the Year of the Hydra in Hearthstone

After the release of Voyage to the Sunken City on April 12, you can expect to see a couple of set rotations next, sending Ashes of Outland, Scholomance Academy, and Madness at the Darkmoon Faire to Wild. Forged in the Barrens, United in Stormwind, Fractured in Alterac Valley, Voyage to the Sunken City, and the Core set will be included in the Standard card pool after set rotation.

Speaking of the Core Set, this essential set is going through some major changes. 50 cards are being rotated out with 72 cards rotating in, totaling the number of cards in the Core Set to 250!

Finally, there are some nifty quality-of-life improvements making it into the game in the Year of the Hydra. They are:

  • Favorite multiple card backs: this is a great change, since there are so many of them that neither the “pick one” nor the “pick a random one from your entire collection” options we currently have are suited.
  • Random hero skin feature: this feature had been promised to players over a year ago, but it looks like it’s finally coming “later this year.”
  • “Recently completed achievements” section added to the UI: another good one, since having to hunt down completed achievements and click each one has always felt very unnecessary and rigid.
  • In-game reporting: a very welcomed change. You’ll be able to report a specific BattleTag or a message received through the in-game chat.
