Being the latest fighting game having been released on PC, Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation consoles, many are wondering if Persona 4 Arena Ultimax does have rollback netcode before making their purchase. Let’s find out.

Does Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Have Rollback?

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax launched on March 17 2022 on PC, Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, and PlayStation consoles, and, at the time of writing, the game features the same delay-based netcode of the original PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release, which may result in a wonky online multiplayer experience depending on the distance between the two players and if one of the users is playing using a wi-fi connection, instead of a more stable and absolutely recommended Ethernet connection.

Persona 4 Arena Ultimax will not be stuck with delay-based netcode for much longer, however. As part of the Persona series 25th Anniversary celebrations, Atlus confirmed that the game will get rollback netcode with a free update that will be released sometime this Summer. Sadly, the Nintendo Switch version will not be getting rollback netcode due to technical limitations, so the definitive portable version of the game will be the Steam Deck release. Not surprising, considering very few fighting games on Nintendo Switch have rollback, but disappointing nonetheless.
