We’re gonna start by saying that you can’t exactly rush this since it’s only going to mess up the game for you, and you might have to start over (which isn’t fun, right?). So, without further ado, let’s get into our Day R Survival tips and tricks!

Take your time, perfection can’t be rushed

Why hurry when you can enjoy yourself a little? Afterall, you’re part of a post-apocalyptic scenario now, right? No jobs, no taxes, no schedule. So take your time and explore the maps, the buildings, gather resources, because every little rock you add to your inventory will matter later on.

It’s best if at first you go around the map and check the surroundings to see all the possibly lootable places, and remember what you can get from each. If you go on ahead and loot them, remember to not fall prey to exhaustion tho.

The first thing you need to keep an eye out when looting these spots is food. That should be your number one priority in any scenario. If an apocalypse happened IRL you wouldn’t want to be the first one to go just because of starvation.

Another thing to look out for is a backpack. Keep looting until you run into one and that will provide more space for you to keep your stuff in.

Cook your food

We’re all humans, so you know we don’t really like raw meat and dirty water. It doesn’t have to be a Gordon Ramsay special dish, just cook your food on a fire and you’re good to go.

This will keep you safe from disease, as well as satisfy your hunger much better. If you eat raw food you will have a harder time resting and staying healthy, so it is best if possible to have a fire going and cook.

Same goes for the water. You need to purify the water by boiling it before drinking, and that will, too, prevent you from contacting diseases and illnesses. It’s really worth the time spend cooking because if you think about the bigger picture, in the time you would spend resting and unable to do anything because of a damn piece of chicken, you could have looted so much.

Sleep in the forests and don’t get radiated

Do not do the same mistake I did and think about sleeping as unnecessary in a game, because this is as real as it gets. If you don’t sleep, you’re super tired and mundane tasks take a whole different turn. Also, always try to sleep in camps and forests, since they are a safer environment than a city when it comes to radiation.

Don’t ever allow your radiation levels to go high because you will meet your end sooner than expected. A radiation level of 40 is the maximum you should let it get to, and never above that. It’s annoying to keep track of that too, but since it’s a survival game, you do what you must to survive.

You have a few ways of lowering the radiation levels, such as anti-radiation pills. Those are a great way to quickly decrease the danger levels, but quite a rare resource. You’ll need some time before getting to them.

Another way is to use the mushrooms (violet ones), but you can also get drunk and forget about all the problems. A.K.A. drink some spirits and the radiation levels will decrease.

Don’t waste the fuel

Rather use a bicycle. The fuel needed to power up some means of transportation can be quite tough to find, so it’s best if you don’t go around wasting everything just to take your new bike for a ride. It’s a difficult resource to gather, and can be looted from gas stations or traded in survivor camps.

If you want to go by car, always have a toolkit and a bicycle in the trunk. You can never be too cautious, right? It’s best if you prevent the inevitable by having some other means of transportation in case you didn’t pay attention to the fuel or didn’t anticipate properly the needed amount.

If this happens, don’t be sad, because that’s why you got the bike. It requires nothing but two healthy legs and you can pedal your way to the gas station to gather more gas.

What would you do IRL?

Day R Survival allows you to pretty much do anything you could imagine in a scenario like this, so think about what you would do to make the most out of everything that you have. Level up your skills, tear apart old clothes and make new ones, make tools and build stuff. Anything can be done with the necessary materials. Think about all the possibilities and do not neglect the food.

Just like IRL, food rots. Not all food, but most of it. Meats rot, even if cooked. So if you do not need them right away, keep in mind that you need to eat it before it goes bad. If that is a big issue for you, keeping track of the food as if you didn’t have enough things to look out for, gather perishable food. And smokes. And drinks. Those do not go bad and never hurt anyone (yet).

Train your fists (and knives?)

You simply can not go into a post-apocalyptic world with zero fighting skills. You’re lucky enough the game is quite pacifist, and doesn’t make you fight zombies and weird people, but sometimes you can encounter some bandit camps that look promising to loot. They are quite difficult tho, so be careful if you aren’t well equipped because this isn’t a job for just anyone.

The same goes for wild animals. Bears, heck, even rats can hurt you. Always keep a few medications, violet mushrooms and band-aids close because you never know when you might need to use one.

Thus being said, I do have a few Day R Survival tips for you guys: Firstly, right when you begin a new game, start searching. Start looting every single camp and place you find and store all the good stuff somewhere you can later take them from.

Since the game will go easy on you at start, you’ll be forgiven if you pull a few crazy stunts like going all Chernobyl with radiation levels over 9000 (not literally).

But like I said, it gets real, so you need to figure out a plan of action: build equipment, focus on gathering food and level up your skills. Don’t try to take on fights without the proper (casual) bulletproof vest and without a destination in mind. It’s dangerous to go aimlessly because you might end up in some secluded location that has nothing that could help you whatsoever.

These will be all the Day R Survival tips and cheats we have for you guys, but if you have some cool survival techniques down your sleeve, leave them down in the comments below to be shared with all the other players! Sharing is caring, especially in a post-apocalyptic world.
