Go for short-range kills!
When you’re just starting out and you’re low level, throwing axes will be your only method of attack. You’re going to notice very quickly that the axes have a rather strange hitbox, and landing direct hits is a lot harder than it looks. That’s why we like to get up close and personal – a short-range axe throw is much more likely to hit your target.
Of course, this isn’t without danger. High risk, high reward, as they always say! You can try to get the jump on your opponent by doing a dodge roll towards them and surprising them with an axe to the face. No one ever suspects you to use the dodge roll offensively, so give it a try!
Always have a shield!
At level 2, you can start picking up shields. Shields will block a single attack from the front before getting destroyed. This can save your life in a pinch, so always make sure you’re scrambling to find another shield! At level 5, you can pick up back shields.
As the name implies, these ones go on your back instead and protect you from getting blindsided by axes. Having both shields on will significantly improve your chances of survival, so scout around for shields before you engage the enemy!
Grab the coins for some experience!
Landing kills is the quickest way to level up your character, but did you know that those little coins on the ground give you experience too? Characters drop a couple of gems whenever they’re slain, but they’re not always picked up right away due to the inevitable chaos to follow.
If you hang back for a bit, you can usually swoop in safely and grab some coins for easy experience.
Look for the yellow dots!
If you’re playing Battleground mode, keep an eye on your minimap. Points of interest will be marked on it by yellow dots. You can find pre-fixed items here, like campfires, explosive barrels, swords, and more.
If you’re defenseless and you’re looking for some pick-me-ups, try going to one of the dots. Just be careful – the AI players may be doing the same thing!
Dodge roll when fighting the dragon!
In Dragon mode, you’ll team up with other AI players to take down a fierce dragon. Same rules apply – you still throw axes and you still go down in one hit! There’s a simple trick to this though. The closest player to the dragon will have its attention. You’ll need to wait until it hovers close enough to be in axe throwing range.
Before you throw your attack though, get ready to dodge roll. The dragon will shoot a fireball at you once it gets close enough, so wait for it then roll out of the way, then throw your axe. You’ll land a hit every time! Just be sure not to get too greedy and get multiple hits in, as fireballs have a nasty hitbox and can hit you with splash damage.
