The Curveball is an interesting technique you can use at all times – one that is more difficult at first, but which gets a lot easier as you get the hang of it and we’ll start with it. So here it is:

How to throw a Curveball in Pokemon Go

There are actually two methods of throwing a Curveball and they both require a bit of practice. I am actually a fan of the first not because it’s cooler but it seems to be a bit more effective, but you have them both listed in this article so you can choose your favorite.

The first one and my favorite is the one that involves tapping, holding and spinning your finger on your touchscreen as if you were drawing a circle. The direction in which you spin doesn’t matter, but the timing does: while “drawing” this imaginary circle, you will see that your Pokeball starts moving and sparkling. Keep an eye on the circle around the Pokemon you’re after and when it gets very small, simply swipe your finger towards it, trying to have your throw as precise as possible. This is the first method to throw the Curveball.

The other doesn’t have the bells and whistles, but it still bags you the extra XP for throwing it: simply swipe in a curve, trying to hold and aim perfectly. This is a bit more difficult even though it sounds easier, but you should try both methods and see which works better for you.

In case you didn’t really understand it, here’s a YouTube video showing you how to throw a Curveball:

I also have a trick for you to try if you want to aim better when throwing your Pokeballs. It involves using a marker and drawing lines on your touchscreen, so make sure you’re comfortable with that. If you are, all you have to do is to draw two small vertical lines on your display and aiming a direct hit at the Pokemon in the middle becomes a lot easier. This can also work with Curveballs, if you need to time your moves flawlessly, so definitely give this method a try!

Also, throwing balls is a lot easier if you use your index finger instead of your thumb which tends to add a curve when aiming (and not one that you want). To do this, even though it might look not that nice, hold your phone with one hand and use the index finger of the other hand to throw the ball. This makes everything a lot easier!

  1. I’ve been noticing that i’m not getting a curve ball bonus despite throwing what i believe to be one. Also saw in your video that you didn’t get the curve bonus either. Any idea why? The app is obviously still new and very buggy, could just be that.

  2. Rather than using a marker, you can place some thin edging tape down the middle of your screen. You can use your home key as a good measuring point.

  3. The curve ball does not give you extra XP. There are theories that say that a curve ball in creases your chance of the pokemon not poping back out of the pokeball after you hit it. To the get extra XP you need the ball to hit the pokemon within the green circle. The smaller the circle, the more XP you get. I believe you can get a Nice / Great / Excellent throw, depending how small the circle was. Giving you plus 10 / 50 / 100 xp.

  4. Tbh I think the game is glitchy when it comes to curveballs, I get straight throws with curveball bonuses and I throw curves that get me scouted for MLB and no bonus…
THANKS FOR USING MY VIDEO BTW
