If you’re the sort of person who plays a lot of multiplayer games, then there’s a good chance you know the sting of missing out on a timed event. Well, that’s where GamerCal comes in. It’s a smart system that ensures you’re never going to miss anything in your favourite games ever again.

In this guide we’ll explain everything you need to know about the service, and give you the lowdown on why it’s likely to become an indispensable part of your mobile gaming life.

Add a game

Once you’ve downloaded GamerCal for free from the App Store you’re going to want to start choosing games to follow. And really, it couldn’t be any simpler.

After you’ve signed in, head to the ‘available games’ tab. Here you’ll see a list of all the games that GamerCal monitors. Either scroll through, or touch the ‘search’ icon, to find the game you’re looking for.

When you’ve found the right game, all you need to do is tap on the ‘track’ button to add it to your games. Now GamerCal is tracking it for you, and will alert you to any events that are happening.

In your own time

Another cool feature of GamerCal is that it automatically changes the timezone of the events you’re tracking to match the one you live in.

This makes it much easier to ensure you know when you need to get a game loaded up. But there’s even more interesting stuff you can do with just a few taps.

Allow the notifications

Once you’ve selected your first game, you’ll be asked whether or not you want to enable notifications for GamerCal. This is an important step in getting the most out of the app.

When prompted, make sure you allow the notifications through. That way you’ll get a push notification whenever an event you’re interested in is about to start.

Choose what interests you

If there are only certain events in a game you want to be notified about, then don’t worry, GamerCal lets you customise the notifications you’re going to receive.

Head to the My Games tab, and tap on the game you want to change. Then tap in the top right corner of the screen on the button marked filter.

Now you can choose which events you want to be notified about, and which ones you don’t. It’s a great way to make sure you’re only getting the information that you need.

A daily view

If you tap on the clock in the top right of the screen when you’re in the ‘my events’ tab, you’ll be shown a breakdown of all of the events that are happening across all of your games in the next 24 hours.

This means you can keep a track of exactly what you need to be doing, and exactly when you need to be doing it. Tap the arrows and you’ll be able to scroll through the upcoming days to see what’s coming up next. Or alternatively you can tap the little ‘calendar’ button and choose a specific day to find out what events are happening then.

My game isn’t there

Well, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem. Tap the settings cog in the top left of the screen and you’ll see an option marked ‘request game’. Tap on this and you can ask GamerCal’s developers to add the game you’re looking for into the service.

If it fits the right criteria, then you may well see it popping up in the available games section within a day or two.

Change when you’re notified

If you want your notifications earlier or later than they’re coming through, then there’s a fix for that too. In the settings menu, tap the option marked ‘alerts & notifications’. Then tap on ‘event starting notification’.

Uncheck the blue box and you can choose how long before an event you’re going to get sent a notification. Tap ‘save’ once you’ve picked a time and you’re good to go.

Download direct

There’s a good chance there are some games in GamerCal that you’ve not heard of before, but if you want to try them out it’s as simple as can be. In the ‘available games’ tab, then tap on it.

This will take you to a menu with some more information about upcoming events for the game. Now tap the ‘download’ button – it looks like an arrow pointing down into a box – and you’ll be taken to the App Store page for the game.
