This Thursday wasn’t exactly amazing in terms of new game releases, but one really solid launch made this week so much better. I am talking about Sid Meier’s Starships, the latest game from the renowned developer and a title that comes as a sort of an expansion or spin-off of the latest Civilization game, Beyond Earth. And yes, it involves starships. A lot of them!
Even though it’s set in the same Civilization universe, the game is completely different, even though the design will remind those who played it of the original game. But in Sid Meier’s Starships, you will take command of a fleet of starships and battle Space Pirates, Marauders and other types of enemies, fighting for the well being of the galaxy.
The replay value is huge in this game, with maps being dinamically generated so that no two games will be the same, and depending on the choices that you make when you set-up the game, you can expect play sessions that last from a couple of hours (on the easiest difficulty and smallest maps) up to 15-16 hours. Pretty amazing and exactly what we’d expect from a Sid Meier game!
But that’s not all! You have a lot of creative freedom when it comes to creating your space fleet: a modular spaceship design allows you to create and customize your ships, Diplomacy, Strategy, and Exploration are also important elements of the game and, of course, you will have multiple victory choices that allow you to follow your own route and win the game your way.
Sid Meier’s Starships is a standalone game, so even if you haven’t played Civilization Beyond Earth, you can still enjoy it at its maximum value. So head over to the App Store and download Sid Meier’s Starships – it’s probably the best iOS game you’ll purchase this month!
